Xplore! Science Discovery is excited to announce its participation in this year’s Kids in Museums ‘Takeover Day.’ This inspiring initiative empowers primary school children to step into the shoes of adults, taking on key roles for a day to explore potential career paths and develop new skills.
At Xplore!, children stepped into various roles, including Marketing, Bookings Team, Host, Front of House Member, Education and Projects Coordinator, and Presenter. To ensure their tasks were completed to a high standard, the children received guidance and support from the experienced employees in each role, making the day both productive and educational.
“It was brilliant to see children taking over at Xplore during Takeover Day. Getting involved in professional tasks such as developing workshops, creating social media content, answering incoming calls and taking bookings, making drinks and working on the tills gave participants a unique behind the scenes experience.” said Kids in Museums Executive Director, Alison Bowyer
The experience for the children at Xplore! offered a unique chance for young participants to gain hands-on insights into the world of work while bringing fresh perspectives to the Xplore! team.
“I love being part of Takeover Day! In 2014 when we first participated, several of my colleagues said how much they enjoyed having a ‘mini-me’. Years later this still perfectly summarises so much about what we hope to achieve – engaging children in the world of STEM from behind the scenes. The children literally take over, from making bookings, to developing activities, welcoming visitors to the centre and supporting the presenter. My favourite part is seeing their faces when they are given staff badges and being presented with a Science Busking box at the end of the day.” Said Cerian Kassam, Education Coordinator at Xplore!
Xplore! eagerly anticipates participating in ‘Takeover Day’ in the coming years, as the event has proven to be a highlight for both the children and the team. The staff thoroughly enjoyed the enthusiasm and creativity the young participants brought to their roles, making the day both exciting and inspiring. Seeing the children embrace their responsibilities and excel in their tasks was a rewarding experience for everyone involved, and Xplore! looks forward to continuing this meaningful initiative, fostering curiosity, skill-building, and career exploration for the next generation.
