Here at Xplore! we want to ensure that every individual who walks through our doors feels comfortable.

That’s why we introduced Inclusion Sundays, where individuals can experience the centre in a way that works best for them!

On Inclusion Day, we:

  • Quiet the music at our reception and cafe area.
  • Dim the lights around the centre for sensory sensitivities.
  • Have a dedicated quiet sensory space for the day.
  • Have a range of hands on workshops throughout the day, you are more than welcome to come and go as you please!
  • Entry to over 85+ hands on, interactive exhibits.
This Inclusion Day, we have loads of things planned! Join us for our Brain Bots themed day!
🧠 Noughts and Crosses – Training MENACE
Step into the world of early artificial intelligence with MENACE, a computer made from matchboxes that learns to play noughts and crosses. Over the course of the day, watch as MENACE “trains” through repeated games, gradually learning better strategies. A perfect way to explore how machines can learn through trial and error—just like us!

🧱 LEGO Coding
Code your creativity with LEGO! In this hands-on session, you’ll use laptops and LEGO to bring your ideas to life through basic programming challenges. Whether you’re a beginner or a budding engineer, come see how inclusive tech can be built brick by brick.

🎨 Quick, Draw! with Google
How does AI learn to recognise a cat from a squiggle? Join this fast-paced drawing game to find out! Think of AI as a young child—we’re teaching it how to understand the world, one sketch at a time. As AI gets better at interpreting our input, we inch closer to a world of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI).

🧩 LEGO Hallucinations
Things aren’t always what they seem! Take a look at a LEGO model from the front, then try building it based on what you think the back looks like. This playful experiment explores how humans—and machines—make assumptions based on limited data.
Was your version anything like the original? Let’s find out together.

👾 Machine Learning Drawing Game
Put yourself in the shoes of a learning algorithm. A Science Communicator will describe a mysterious creature, and you’ll draw what you imagine it looks like. With each round, you’ll get more clues—and your drawings will get closer to the real thing.
This collaborative game shows how machine learning improves with more data, revealing how human interpretation and incremental learning shape how AI “thinks.”

We’re proud to be working in partnership with Explore Your Universe, whose support has helped bring Inclusion Day to life. Their commitment to making science and technology more inclusive and accessible aligns perfectly with our mission. Together, we’re creating a day full of discovery, creativity, and connection for our whole community.
