What is the Welsh Language Offer?

Our Cynnig Cymraeg (Welsh Language Offer) reflects our dedication to supporting the Welsh language and culture. By embracing bilingualism, we aim to enhance our impact and encourage others to join us in our mission to proctect the Welsh Language.

We are proud to have collaborated with the Welsh Language Commissioner in developing our Cynnig Cymraeg, and we are honoured to have received official accreditation in recognition of our commitment.

At Xplore! we recognise the Welsh language and Welsh culture is an important part of the heritage and identity of our area. We recognise the strategic role we play as a science discovery centre to assist in the Welsh Government’s 2050 a million Welsh speakers’ strategy.

Our mission is to communicate science in exciting and innovative ways to all, regardless of age, ability or background. Our vision is to contribute to a vibrant local and regional economy, whilst encouraging people to engage with science in innovative and captivating new ways. We want to see our audiences feeling enthusiastic and comfortable when discussing and engaging with STEM.

Not only do we provide Welsh language shows, workshops, and events to cater for the Welsh-speaking community and Welsh language learners, by using the Welsh language in our discovery centre and on promotional material we are also raising awareness of the language with our visitors. We wish to create a sense of belonging with the organisation. We intend for the Welsh-speaking community to view the organisation not an English-language one, but as a bilingual organisation.

As part of our Welsh offer, we've made the following commitments:

Welsh-language events, shows and workshops are available to book for schools, community groups and the general public.

Welsh and English are equal in external correspondence, signage, the website and exhibitions at the centre.

We have Welsh speaking staff who are identifiable with Iaith Gwaith badges or lanyards.

We encourage and support staff members to develop their Welsh language skills through courses run by Wrexham University.

We have set up a Welsh language development group to head up the development of bilingualism in the centre and the use and celebration of the Welsh language and culture.

At Xplore!, we are proud to be a bilingual organisation that values and promotes the Welsh language. We actively encourage Welsh speakers to join our team and ensure all our vacancies are advertised bilingually.

We are committed to supporting our staff in developing their Welsh language skills. Through our partnership with Wrexham University, we offer access to Welsh language courses, enabling our team members to enhance their proficiency and confidence in using Welsh at work.
