A unique interactive game designed to inspire the next generation of healthcare science professionals is now available for visitors to experience at Xplore! Science Discovery Centre in Wrexham.
Developed through a collaborative partnership between Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW), Xplore! and healthcare science professionals from across NHS Wales, the touchscreen exhibit uses real-world patient scenarios to introduce children and young people to the fascinating world of healthcare science.
Visitors can enjoy the full interactive experience, exploring a wide range of healthcare science professions through immersive gameplay. Players are challenged to diagnose patient problems, answer questions and solve healthcare challenges, discovering how healthcare science professionals play a vital role in diagnosing, monitoring and treating patients across NHS Wales.
The game features 11 healthcare science professionals as interactive avatars, allowing visitors to engage with real professionals and gain first-hand insight into the skills, expertise and technology that underpin modern healthcare.

A defining feature of the exhibit is the direct involvement of healthcare science professionals throughout its development.
Working alongside Xplore!, professionals helped design each patient scenario to ensure the content accurately reflects real clinical practice and showcases the breadth of healthcare science careers. Their expertise has created an authentic learning experience that demonstrates the real impact these professions have on patient care while making complex science engaging and accessible for young audiences.
Inspiring the Future Healthcare Workforce
Healthcare science professionals contribute to around 80% of patient diagnoses, yet many of these careers remain largely unknown to the public.
The Healthcare Science Interactive Game helps address this by raising awareness of the diverse roles within healthcare science and encouraging children and families to explore career opportunities they may never have considered. By presenting healthcare science through interactive storytelling and problem-solving, the exhibit helps visitors understand how science and technology improve patient outcomes while highlighting the rewarding careers available within NHS Wales.
As a permanent feature at Xplore! Science Discovery Centre, the completed exhibit will continue to engage thousands of visitors each year, helping to build awareness of healthcare science, inspire curiosity in STEM subjects and support the future healthcare workforce in Wales.
