Xplore! and Edina Trust Join Forces to Spark a Love of Science in Young Learners

We’re excited to announce a brand-new partnership with Xplore! Science Discovery Centre and the Edina Trust, which aims to deliver inspiring, accessible science education to KS1 pupils across North Wales.

Running from May to November 2025, this collaborative project will engage over 700 Reception, Year 1, and Year 2 pupils through a three-part programme designed to build curiosity, confidence, and a lifelong interest in STEM.

Phase 1: Taking Science Into Schools (May–July 2025)

In the summer term, our team will bring science straight to the classroom with our ever-popular outreach session ‘Body Bother’. Focused on human biology, this interactive storytelling workshop helps young children understand how their bodies work in a fun and memorable way.

Delivered directly to eight participating schools, these sessions will reach up to 90 children per school, ensuring wide access to high-quality, curriculum-aligned science in a setting that feels safe and familiar, particularly important for pupils who may face barriers to visiting Xplore! in person.

Phase 2: Introducing ‘Claw & Order’ – A New Biology Session for KS1

In response to teacher feedback, we’re developing an exciting new session: ‘Claw & Order’. Tailored to Year 1 and Year 2 pupils, this brand-new workshop explores animals, habitats, and food chains through a carousel of five hands-on, age-appropriate activities.

‘Claw & Order’ is designed to address gaps in current science provision, making key biology topics fun, accessible, and unforgettable. Pupils will take part in this session during their visit to Xplore! Later in the year.

The final stage of the project sees children visiting the Xplore! Science Discovery Centre in Wrexham for an immersive STEM experience. In addition to getting hands-on with our interactive exhibits, pupils will take part in our newly launched ‘Claw & Order’ session, reinforcing what they’ve already explored in school.

To ensure every child can take part, we’re offering travel bursaries for participating schools, helping remove financial and geographic barriers. Each school will also receive a post-visit activity pack to help teachers extend learning back in the classroom.

Breaking Down Barriers, Building Up Futures

This initiative, supported by the Edina Trust, is about more than just science sessions—it’s about equity, opportunity, and inspiration. By providing sustained learning experiences and supporting schools every step of the way, we’re ensuring that all children, regardless of background, can see themselves as scientists, explorers, and problem-solvers.

We can’t wait to see the impact this project will have on the next generation!
