THEME: LAB SKILLS
Get ready for some hands-on science like no other! Our Lab Skills drop-in activities are the perfect opportunity for curious minds to step into the shoes of real scientists. Suit up in lab coats and safety goggles as we dive into the exciting world of experiments, bubbling reactions, and scientific discovery!
Children will get to grips with real lab equipment – beakers, test tubes, pipettes, and more – in a fun and safe environment. They’ll learn how to use each tool while developing key scientific skills through exciting, interactive activities.
What’s on the agenda?
Make Your Own Indicator! – Discover the secrets of chemistry as we create a colour-changing solution and test it with different household substances.
Explosive Volcanoes! – Mix up a fizzy eruption and watch science in action!
Name That Lab Kit! – Can you tell your conical flask from your measuring cylinder?
Spot the Hazards! – Learn how to stay safe in the lab.This is a brilliant chance for home-educated children to build confidence with scientific tools, ask questions, and have a blast exploring the wonders of science through practical play
Know before your visit:
- Everyone who attends needs a ticket, including accompanying adults and siblings.
- Children under 3 years old are free.
- All children attending the event must be supervised and accompanied by their grown-ups at all times.
- Children under 5 will not be able to take part in activities.
- If you are intending to bring older or younger children into the sessions, please bear in mind that the content may not be engaging for them, and restless behaviour can affect the enjoyment of others in the audience. We will be happy to recommend alternative things to do that might be more relevant.
- Please note that the workshops and activities for Home Educator Day will now run from 10:00–12:00 and 13:00–14:00.
